Punta Lajial
Also known as: El Lajial
The site takes its name from the lajiales, the smooth or rippled basalt lava flows that continue from land straight down the island's flank. The bottom slopes steeply and evenly from about 10 m to beyond 40 m, interrupted by lava walls perpendicular to the coast. Between two parallel lava ridges a sheltered central zone holds groupers, seabream and rays, while mantas, barracuda and amberjacks may pass in the open water beyond. Black coral appears on the ledges from about 35 to 40 m. The clear water makes it easy to sink deeper than planned, so the dive centres stress watching depth limits.
