La Herradura
La Herradura lies two minutes by boat west of the port, on a plateau that starts at about 5 to 8 m and slopes to about 35 m. The deeper part along the drop-off faces the open sea, where manta rays, amberjacks and bonito pass at times. The return leads through small canyons shaped like a horseshoe, which give the site its name. Cracks and arches shelter many moray eels, including the rare goldentail moray, and a small colony of black coral grows at little more than 10 m. Shoals of seabream, island groupers and dusky groupers are common, and currents can be strong on some days.
