Tormentos
Also known as: Tormentos Reef · Punta Tormentos
Coral heads several metres high are cut by tunnels and overhangs that hold large schools of French grunts and snappers. Lobsters, splendid toadfish, spotted morays, banded coral shrimp, arrow crabs and flamingo tongues are found in the holes and ledges. Nurse sharks, black groupers, turtles and barracuda patrol the reef. Divers with good air consumption can start at Yucab and drift onto Tormentos. The name refers to Punta Tormentos, a W-shaped point on the coast.
