Chankanaab
Also known as: Chankanaab Shallows · Chankanaab Shallow · Chankanaab Reef
Cool fresh water from the park's lagoon sometimes flows over the reef, which can lower the visibility and create a shimmering halocline. Lobsters, crabs, spotted morays, grunts and snappers live around the coral heads, and cleaning stations attract groupers and bar jacks. Stingrays, peacock flounders and sometimes a seahorse are found on the sand. Some underwater statues are part of the shore dive from the park. The name is Mayan and refers to the open cenote, a 'little sea', inside the park.
