MV Rockeater

Also known as: Rockeater

The ship was built in New Orleans in 1945 and bought in 1964 by Ocean Science and Engineering for prospecting off the South African coast. Scuba Shack describes it as a diamond dredger. The five Smitswinkel Bay wrecks were sunk on purpose to create an artificial reef and lie close together, so in good visibility several can be seen on one dive. Soft corals, sponges and sea fans have colonised the hull. Divers need advanced certification because of the depth.
