Kyrenia Wreck
Also known as: Kyrenia · Kyrenia Shipwreck · Kyrinia Wreck
Commissioned in 1978 by the Hellenic Navy as HS Knossos, the vessel later served the Cyprus navy as Kyrenia before the Ministry of Defence donated it for sinking; its bow machine gun was removed beforehand. It is reached by a short boat ride from Ayia Napa harbour and lies in the Ayia Napa marine protected area near the MUSAN sculptures. The compact, intact hull is popular for wreck photography and Advanced Open Water training dives. Moray eels and groupers have settled in numbers, along with many small fish. It should not be confused with the ancient Kyrenia ship, a merchant vessel of the fourth century BC.
