Colorado

Also known as: Colorado Canyon

Colorado lies off Pointe d'Esny, about 500 to 600 m beyond the barrier reef on the south-east coast. The dive follows a canyon some 400 m long, then a bending tunnel that exits through a crevice and an arch over a narrow gorge. A large cavern with an opening in its roof lets shafts of sunlight fall onto pink coral and gorgonians, and the return leads through a forest of sea fans. Turtles, lobsters, groupers, parrotfish, tuna and blacktip reef sharks are reported in the canyon. Scuba World Diving Mauritius lists it as one of its two five-star sites, and guides recommend it for experienced divers only.
