Secca di Pentapalumbo
Also known as: Pentapalumbo
The shoal is what remains of an old volcanic structure of grey tuff, with several pinnacles and mounds covered in large yellow encrusting sponges. Red Paramuricea gorgonians, some in rare yellow-tipped and albino forms, cover the tops, and Centro Sub Pozzuoli describes a huge branch of true black coral on the eastern side. Red coral, large groupers, forkbeards, conger eels, big squid and eagle rays are among the encounters. The water is often so clear that boats on the surface can be seen from 50 m.
