Relitto del Doris
Also known as: Wreck of the Doris · Relitto Doris · Doris
The Doris entered the Naples roadstead in October 1964 and sank two days later when a storm broke her steering gear and moorings. She rests on her port side at about 20 m, with the starboard rail around 10 m, outside the San Vincenzo breakwater. A severe storm in December 2004 collapsed the central hold, so the bow can now only be seen from outside, while the stern section with the bridge is still intact. Nets cover parts of the hull, visibility near the surface can be poor, and the site is best avoided with southerly winds. Groupers, white bream, moray and conger eels, nudibranchs and lobsters live on the wreck, with schools of amberjack in autumn.
