Pamir

Also known as: Parmir

The Pamir is a freighter that was deliberately sunk in the early 1980s as an artificial reef and now sits upright in a sheltered spot near the shore. At about 165 ft long and 60 ft at its deepest point, it is a relaxed dive that local operators recommend for beginners and as a warm-up before the deeper Stavronikita. The hull is still intact, with portholes and a variety of tropical fish around it. A small submarine wreck of unclear origin rests nearby. The site is best reached by boat, though it can also be done from the shore.
