Yellowstone Reef
Yellowstone Reef in Big Bay is named after a yellowish pinnacle visible from the surface and after the US national park. A fairly flat reef with red sponges and nudibranchs sits on an old coral shelf with steep sides, and deeper pinnacles attract technical divers.
Before the reef, the seagrass hides sea moths and pipehorses, and a torpedo ray may swim past. The reef top carries two pinnacles with red sponges and many nudibranchs, while its flanks drop from about 18 to 30 m like a small wall. Deeper down there are large black coral bushes, lunar-tailed groupers, stingrays and Napoleon wrasse. Beyond 30 m three deep pinnacles, canyons and arches make it a training ground for deep and technical divers. The shore entry has sharp rubble and urchins.
