Kitsugawa Maru

Also known as: Kizugawa Maru · Kitz

The freighter was damaged off southern Guam during the war, came into Apra Harbor for repairs and was sunk there by torpedo bombers. Her engine room flooded quickly, so she settled upright with the bow pointing towards the commercial port. A large bow gun with ammunition, an H-shaped mast and the upper superstructure were the classic sights. In October 2023 a tanker anchoring on the site badly damaged the bow, mast and bridge, and parts now lie broken on the deck or on the seabed. Nitrox helps to extend the short bottom time at these depths.
