Eaglehawk Reef
Also known as: Eagle Hawk Reef
Eaglehawk Reef lies off Hook Island and is reached from a mooring in the Stonehaven anchorage. The reef forms a finger that reaches out north-west from the southern corner of the anchorage, and it stays shallow, to about 10 m. Soft corals, sea anemones and nudibranchs are the things to look for. Fine sediment covers the area, so the water turns murky when the current runs, while on calm days visibility can exceed 60 ft (about 18 m). Ospreys nest on the rocks along the shore, which is where the site gets its name.
