Alcyonaria Point
Alcyonaria Point owes its name to the alcyonarian soft corals that grow here. Plate corals cover a shallow ledge that follows the point as far as Flat Rock, and below it a vertical wall is cut by gullies and small caves. Soft corals appear at around 10 m, while large wrasse, cod and sweetlips keep to the deeper parts. Because of the drop-off, anchoring is awkward, and the current can cause trouble, above all around mid-tide. Northerlies and strong south-easterlies reach the point directly.
