Black Island
Also known as: Bali Hai · Black Island West Reef
Black Island sits in the sheltered water between Hook, Hayman and Langford islands and is a favourite of smaller boats. Small coral heads on silty sand slope gently from the beach, with the best coral close to shore off the north-western corner. Fish are mostly small but colourful, and Airlie Beach Dive Centre names clownfish and nudibranchs. The shallow profile makes it a training site, but currents can be strong offshore near the northern end of the beach.
