Steep Island
Below about 18 m a large part of the cliff is covered by tall grey tubes of northern feather duster worms, whose purple plumes pull back when touched. Such tube worm fields are rare in British Columbia, and divers compare the scene to a deep-sea landscape. Puget Sound king crabs and lingcod rest among the tubes. The wall also holds plenty of fish. Currents in the passage can rise quickly, so the dive is done with a pick-up boat following the divers.
