Ogden Point Breakwater

The breakwater lies in a marine sanctuary next to the cruise ship terminal, and divers enter from the beach, the breakwater itself or a boat. Painted flags on the west side match bronze plaques at the bottom that describe the marine life and give the bearing to the next plaque. Depths increase from the sandy area near the beach to tumbled granite blocks at the outer end. Giant Pacific octopus, wolf eels, kelp, anemones, nudibranchs and many rockfish species live along the blocks. Reef balls were placed off the wall in 2008 to study how species spread outwards, and line fishing gear on the bottom is a hazard to watch for.
