Shark Airport

Shark Airport is one of the best-known sites of Tubbataha and owes its name to the whitetip reef sharks resting in rows on the plateau, which reminded divers of planes lined up at an airport. The reef forms a broad plateau at around 15 m that falls to a shelf at about 25 m. There is usually some current, so the site is dived as a drift along the plateau. Besides whitetips, grey reef, nurse, silky, guitar or even whale sharks have been reported, together with hawksbill and green turtles in the shallows. Cleaning stations along the reef make reef fish easier to approach, and nesting triggerfish ask for some distance. Because it is fairly shallow it is also used for night dives.
