Muirs Rock

Also known as: Muir's Rock · Muirs

The boulders lean against each other like a small amphitheatre and leave short swim-throughs between them. The best part lies north-east of a large upwelling on the reef running out from the main rock, where rock walls and small caverns are carpeted in yellow zoanthids and jewel anemones. The same colours cover an inclined wall on the south side of the reef. In a swell the water rushes through the gaps, so small tunnels should be entered with care. The site lies outside the Governor Island marine reserve.
