USS Lanikai

Also known as: Lanikai

Built in 1914 as the yacht Hermes, the vessel served the US Navy in the First World War, appeared in the 1937 film The Hurricane and was taken into Navy service again in December 1941. She escaped from the Philippines to Australia in 1942 and returned to Subic after the war, where a typhoon sank her during repairs. Local divers found the wreck again in Nabasan Bay in 2003. Most of the hull has broken apart, but parts of the structure are still recognisable and attract fish. Depth, limited visibility and the lack of a buoy mean it is rarely dived.
