The Ledge

The Ledge is an isolated volcanic pinnacle in the middle of the strait, named after the large overhang on its west side; Taveuni Dive Resort describes a ledge at about 12 m running around the reef. It is one of the most easterly Rainbow Reef sites and sits in the north to south tidal flow, which brings pelagics such as jacks, dogtooth tuna and Spanish mackerel to its edge. The summit is crowned by an anvil-shaped rock with soft corals in many colours, and swimming under the crown can be tricky when the current runs. A resident school of black snapper, Napoleon wrasse, emperor angelfish, titan triggerfish and lionfish along the ledge are among the regulars.
