Alki Junkyard
Also known as: Alki Beach Junkyard · Alki Junkyard (Alki Beach Park)
Alki Junkyard takes its name from the mixed junk that people sank here as reef material over the years. PNW Diving recommends it for small creatures such as neon sea fleas, sea spiders, opossum shrimp and juvenile stubby squid, and it also has a sea pen field and an extensive eelgrass bed. Rope lines at about 50 ft from both entries help with navigation, and a pipe along the line often holds juvenile wolf eels. Seattle Dive Tours lists brown and quillback rockfish, rock sole, painted greenling and orange sea pens. The site is sheltered from southerly winds but current can run, so it is dived at slack or on a mild ebb.
