Silvertip Bank
The bank is a broad plateau of hard corals and sand with two sloping drop-offs, one on each side; in the southeast corner the bottom falls to about 40 m. It was once famous for silvertip sharks, which shark fishing has largely removed, but whitetip and blacktip reef sharks and occasional nurse sharks are still seen. The open-ocean setting brings strong, changeable currents and exceptional visibility. Leopard blennies and coral crabs live among the cauliflower corals. Reaching it takes an overnight crossing, and divers need a surface marker buoy.
