Iwami Maru

The Iwami Maru was a 775-ton Japanese freighter sunk at Wickham Harbour on 26 December 1942, probably by skip-bombing, as holes near the bow suggest. She sits upright in 38 m with the bow slightly raised, the masthead at about 15 m and the stern damaged by an explosion. The forward hold contains two large artillery pieces lying on their sides, and the engine room is easy to reach. Black coral covers parts of the wreck, a deck gun hangs over the side near the bow, and trevally and groupers hunt over the decks while batfish follow divers.
