Hadsel

Also known as: MS Hadsel · M/S Hadsel · MV Hadsel

Hadsel was the first motor ship in regular Hurtigruten service and later carried cargo and passengers. In January 1958 a strong current pushed her onto a skerry near Reine; the 20 passengers and 26 crew left in the lifeboats before she slid off and sank. The roughly 67 m hull stands almost upright on white sand, heeled over to port, and the foremast is still in place. An old radio receiver lies on deck, and the superstructure amidships and aft can be entered. Large numbers of comb jellies often gather around the wreck, and at around 40 m and deeper it is a dive for experienced divers.
