Dogtooth Lair
Several sources say the site takes its name from the dogtooth tuna seen along the drop-off, from small groups of juveniles to single fish over a metre long. The reef begins as a sloping sand bank with acropora fields and sandy channels, then steepens to the north-east into a wall that drops into the deep water of the South China Sea. Yellow gorgonians grow from about 20 m, where blue-masked angelfish and round batfish are seen. Pickhandle barracuda and big-eyed jacks may show up in the blue, the resort adds fusiliers and turtles, and hammerhead sharks and sunfish are rarer sightings. The resort also mentions overhangs and ledges where stingrays rest beside whitetip reef sharks.
