Marienschlucht

Also known as: Marienschlucht Steilwand · Bodensee - Marienschlucht

What divers call the Marienschlucht is mostly the wall between the Katharinenbach stream and the Teufelstisch ban zone, east of the gorge itself. It starts at the surface or in standing depth and falls in steps to about 40 m before giving way to a steep sandy slope. Niches, cracks and small overhangs in the mussel-covered rock hide eels, burbot and other lake fish. The length of the wall makes it ideal for one-way dives from the boat, usually starting from the harbour of Wallhausen. Visibility depends strongly on rain, which washes sediment in from the slopes and streams.
