Sai Daeng
Also known as: Sai Daeng Beach
Sai Daeng is a beach and bay in the southeast of Koh Tao, between Shark Bay and Aow Leuk, and it is dived straight from the shore. After a sandy entry, the bottom turns into patches of branching and table coral, with coral restoration structures on the west side that shelter titan triggerfish and groupers. Its specialty is turtles: green turtles are a frequent sight on the seagrass near the sand, where they feed, and blacktip reef sharks appear occasionally. Groupers, anemonefish, parrotfish, rabbitfish and bannerfish are common, with nudibranchs on the reef. The calm, shallow water is popular for snorkelling, introductory dives and shore training, while more experienced divers can explore the deeper reef further out.
