Hin Wong Bay
Also known as: Ao Hin Wong Bay
Hin Wong Bay is a wide, horseshoe-shaped bay on Koh Tao's northeast coast and is quieter than the busy west-coast sites. Its specialty is the boulder shoreline: in many places the granite boulders and the coral have grown together into small pockets full of life, and in the corner of the southern side there is a cave divers can swim through. Further out, massive coral bommies, sponges and anemone fields rise from the sand, with clouds of glassfish, fusiliers and rabbitfish as well as parrotfish and blue-ringed angelfish. The northern side has many cracks where yellow boxfish, Jenkins whiprays and sea snakes are found, and at certain times of year blacktip reef sharks are seen almost daily. Depths run from a few metres to about 20 m with many possible routes, which suits Open Water divers, although visibility is sometimes poor.
