South Ema

Also known as: Ema South · South Ema Reef · South Emma · South Ema's

South Ema is reached down a saddle from the main reef, past gorgonians and plate corals, to the entrance of a deep swim-through cave framed by sea fans and rope sponges. Rising onto the attached bommie, divers pass soft corals, thickets of red whip gorgonians and barrel sponges almost two metres tall. The crest carries hard corals and anemones with clownfish, while fusiliers, trevally and barracuda cruise overhead and grey reef sharks often patrol the southern side. Leafy scorpionfish have been found here as well.
