Restorf Island

Also known as: Resorf Island

Restorf Island packs several environments into one site. Sand flats close to the beach hold large colonies of garden eels, shrimp gobies, flatheads, flounders and, in season, the nests of yellowmargin triggerfish. To the northeast a hard coral reef has anemones with clown anemonefish, while the deeper side carries black coral trees, gorgonians and barrel sponges. The western slope is a patchwork of bommies with sea fans, sea whips and elephant ear sponges sheltering nudibranchs, shrimp and the occasional octopus. Liveaboards often anchor here overnight, and blue ribbon eels, devil scorpionfish, pipefish and seahorses have been reported.
