F.W. Abrams
The ship is broken into sections, with three boilers and the engine area as the highest points and a recognisable bow with its anchor windlass. Depth-charging, wire-dragging and use as a bombing target left the midships as a jumble of beams and plates, while grouper and snapper hide under the plates of the bow. Large rays, cobia, octopus and turtles are typical, and dolphins and the occasional manta ray have been encountered. Because it is close to the inlet, Dive Hatteras can often reach it even in rough weather.
