Tarpon
Also known as: USS Tarpon
Tarpon and her sister Shark were the US Navy's first all-welded submarines, and Tarpon sank the German raider Michel in the Pacific. The pressure hull lies on its keel with a slight list; the bow is broken and the conning tower and gun have fallen to the sand. Dive Hatteras has reported groups of sand tiger sharks resting beside the hull, as well as grouper and pompano. The interior is silted and should only be entered by penetration-trained divers. Currents can be strong at this depth.
