Xlendi Bay
Also known as: Xlendi Cave & Reef · Xlendi Bay, Reef and Tunnel · Xlendi Tunnel · Xlendi Cave
Beginners walk in from the beach, while qualified divers jump in from a platform on the south side and cross the bay to the tunnel. The tunnel starts just below the surface, stays shallow and can be surfaced in many places, and light falling through cracks in its roof makes it popular with photographers. Its walls are covered in golden zoanthids, red starfish and sponges, nudibranchs such as Flabellina are common and young barracuda often shelter at the entrance. The bay itself has octopus, moray eels and many small fish and no current. Boat traffic in the bay and poor visibility after heavy rain call for care.
