Roca Ballena

Also known as: Whale Rock

Roca Ballena is a rock formation off San Cristobal that resembles a whale coming to the surface. Divers usually enter on the east side and drift west with the current, descending over the rock to a sandy bottom and past a drop-off. The rock works as a cleaning station, and two main currents meet here. Large schools of jacks, pompano, tuna and barracuda, turtles and rays are typical, with mantas and, with luck, hammerheads and other sharks. The strength of the current and the depth make it better suited to experienced divers.
