Gordon Rocks

Also known as: Gordon's Rock · Roca Gordon · La Lavadora

Gordon Rocks is what remains of a volcanic crater off the east coast of Santa Cruz, with rocks breaking the surface on its rim and several pinnacles below. Divers explore the sandy crater floor, the pinnacles on its northern edge and the outer wall, which drops far deeper. Its nickname, the washing machine, comes from the strong and changing currents, surge and down-currents. Schools of scalloped hammerheads are the main draw, joined by whitetip and Galapagos sharks, eagle rays, turtles, sea lions and, at times, mantas and mola mola. Local dive centres only take divers with advanced certification and a minimum number of logged dives.
