Naufrágio do Porto
Also known as: Navio do Porto
The wreck lies in the Baía de Santo Antônio by the harbour, about 50 m from the beach, with a buoy at the harbour entrance marking its bow. The 120 m Greek cargo steamer Eleni Stathatos ran aground here in 1929 with railway material for Argentina and finished sinking in 1946. Today the ship is broken up between 3 and 8 m, with its bow, three boilers, the triple expansion steam engine, the shaft tunnel and train wheels from the cargo still recognisable. Its stern touches the remains of the Maria Stathatos, which sank in the same bay in 1937. The Ilha de Noronha agency rates the site as suitable for inexperienced divers.
