Canhões de Entre Montes
Also known as: Canhões de Entre os Montes
Archaeologists moved several large cannons and other centuries-old objects from the bay of Horta harbour to this spot to keep them safe, and they now rest on the sand beside three big boulders. The rocks and guns have become a habitat for Azores chromis, moray eels and red scorpionfish. In summer many mottled sea hares appear on the site. Round stingrays, lizardfish and flounders live on the sand, while white seabream and grey triggerfish school above. The depth stays fairly even between 18 and 22 m.
