HMHS Britannic

Also known as: Britannic

Britannic was the last of the Olympic-class liners of the White Star Line and served as a hospital ship in the First World War. On 21 November 1916 she struck a mine off Kea and sank 55 minutes later while the crew tried to beach her on the island. Jacques Cousteau located and explored the wreck in 1975. She lies on her starboard side and is largely intact, and teams using trimix and later rebreathers have dived her since 1997. Since 2022 the wreck is one of the protected sites of the Kea Underwater Historic Site and can be visited with licensed dive centres.
