La Grotte à Corail
Also known as: La grotte au corail · Pointe Rascasse
The site lies on a wall perpendicular to the coast and is well sheltered from the mistral, one of the few dives possible in this sector when it blows. The cave is in fact a broad mouth open to the blue, deep enough to slip inside, and its fragile vault demands careful finning. Above it, in 3 m of water, a hole full of cardinalfish is home to a grouper of about 60 cm, and schools of salema patrol the plateau. Archaeologists found flint tools in the cave in the 1960s showing that it was inhabited in the Palaeolithic.
