Gruta Azul
Also known as: Grutazul · Blue Cave
Gruta Azul is one of the two signature cave dives of Arraial do Cabo. Divers descend to about 10 m and swim into the cave towards the light, which falls through a vertical crack of 2 to 3 m diameter that reaches the surface. Waves create strong surge in the chamber, and a pointed rock in one corner is a known hazard; at least two divers have died here. Operators only go in an extremely calm sea and with divers of high skill, as there is no direct way up to the surface.
