The Marion

Also known as: The Merian Wreck

The Marion once served as a crane barge for the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center, the US Navy base on Andros. It was sunk on purpose to create an artificial reef and now lies on a sandy bottom dotted with natural coral heads. Besides the hull, divers can look at the tractor and the crane that were left aboard. Spiny lobsters hide inside the wreck and green morays live in its darker corners, while southern stingrays cruise the sand around it. Silky sharks pass by now and then.
