The Blue Hole
Also known as: Great Blue Hole
This sinkhole in the sea floor near Small Hope Bay was once a dry-land feature, and the chute that the dive follows was cut by fresh water falling into it. Divers descend that chute, then swim along the rim with views down into the dark shaft. The highlight is the Skylight Room, a roomy chamber where boulders are wedged in the rim and sunlight filters through openings overhead. Fresh water still flows out of the hole, and limestone remnants of old caves line its walls. Divingaway calls it the second deepest blue hole of the Bahamas, and Undercurrent puts its full depth at 320 ft, far below recreational limits.
