Big Drop-Off

The top of the reef is so shallow that it can be exposed at extreme low tides, while the wall itself falls far beyond diving depth. Divers drift along the face past sea fans, leather corals and soft corals in violet and pink, with pyramid butterflyfish and anthias feeding in the water next to the wall. Turtles, dwarf angelfish, clownfish and camouflaged leaf fish and stonefish can be spotted, and grey, whitetip and blacktip sharks patrol the drop-off. Near the eastern buoy lies a large steel ball with a chain, a remnant of a World War II barrier that closed the passage to German Channel.
