Blue Holes
Also known as: Blue Hole
The holes start in only one to two metres of water on the reef flat and merge into an amphitheatre-sized cavern whose floor lies at around 40 m. Light falls in through the holes and the openings in the wall, which makes the cavern popular for silhouette photos. Whip corals, sea fans and sponges grow on the walls, and whitetip and leopard sharks sometimes rest on the sandy floor. Divers leave through a window or the larger lower opening on the reef face and can then drift south to Blue Corner. A narrow passage at the north end leads into a deeper cave that dive centres reserve for trained cave divers.
