The pass offers several drop points, with sheltered inner slopes, a shallow central plateau where the current can be strong and deeper outer slopes exposed to the swell. Most of the emblematic South Pacific species can be seen here, including manta rays, grey reef and whitetip sharks, eagle rays, Napoleon wrasse, groupers and turtles. Ultramarina reports mantas mainly between January and April and grey reef sharks breeding between April and June. Even on the 12 m plateau the current calls for some technique.
