North Point

North Point stretches along the coast just beyond Tedau up to the northern tip of Tioman, and with a northerly current it is a classic drift dive along the island. The reef slopes over coral bommies and huge granite boulders covered in hard and soft corals down to sand at roughly 18 to 20 m, with a garden of sea whips near the base. Spiny lobsters, titan triggerfish, lionfish, morays, sweetlips, small groups of bumphead parrotfish, oceanic barracuda and the occasional reef shark are seen, and nudibranch lovers find plenty to look at. Because the current can become strong, especially at high tide, buddy contact and a surface marker buoy matter; on calm days it also works for Open Water dives, and it serves as a sheltered alternative when the crossing to the outer islands is rough.
