North Neptune Islands
Also known as: North Neptune Island · North Neptunes
The North Neptune Islands are a large island and a small islet near the mouth of Spencer Gulf, and cage diving with great white sharks has been run here since the late 1970s. Since 2002 the Neptune Islands have been the only place in Australia where shark cage diving is legally allowed. Because the northern group is the closer one to Port Lincoln, day boats normally come here, while liveaboards can choose between the northern and the southern group. Surface cages need no dive certification, and certified divers can go down in a bottom cage to about 18 m. A large breeding colony of fur seals on the islands is the reason the sharks gather here. Years of berley at this group have drawn big schools of trevally around the cages, which can block the view of sharks further out.

Vote for the name divers really use. Divers who logged a dive here count double. The votes are counted every night, and the main name only changes when another name has led clearly for a week.
