The Arches
The Arches is a reef close to shore whose coral-encrusted arch formations give the site its name. Between the arches divers find swim-throughs, ledges, overhangs and small caverns over a sandy bottom. Nurse sharks often rest in the recesses, joined by fairy basslets, rays, yellowhead jawfish, garden and moray eels and lobsters. Scuba Diving magazine describes a pod of wild dolphins accompanying divers here. NEPA chose the Arches for an additional reef assessment because it is one of the most heavily dived sites in the marine park.
