Laka Lodge Reef

The house reef of Mohéli Laka Lodge lies directly in front of the hotel, about five minutes away. A meadow of seagrass, algae and small corals covers a plateau that ends at a reef slope, with depths from 2 to 20 m. In the morning and evening green turtles come to feed among schools of surgeonfish, scorpionfish, batfish and boxfish, and turtles rest on the slope. After dark the plateau fills with molluscs, octopus, squid and crocodilefish, while camouflage crabs hide on the slope. The lodge rates its night dives here as exceptional, and photographers find plenty to shoot. Stonefish and scorpionfish live on the reef, so contact with the bottom should be avoided.
